Notes to Self (for next year's garden)

1. Narrow tomato varieties from 30 this year down to 15, include Rosso Bruno, Goose Creek (heirloomtomatoplants.com)
2. Corn varieties I want to try: Mirai, Painted Hills, Mushroom's Martian Double Red
3. Okra for next year: Jing Orange and Burmese (place Baker Creek order early
4. Try some Lobitz' rose-colored bush beans (from Seeds of Change) also Cascade giants (purple-stripe) and Tarbais dry pole beans from a gourmet store
5. HAVE FROST TENTS/COVERS READY FOR ACTION AT ALL TIMES
6. Grow Yacon~trade, ebay, superseeds.com?
7. Plant some Crosne or Chinese Artichoke (stachys affinys from Companionplants.com)
8. Plant some Potato bean or ground nut (apios americana, from Oikos Tree Crops)
9. Carrot to try: the giant Flakkee (from Gourmet Seed)
10. Carrot to try: Black Spanish (ebay, T.Etty, other sources, Johnny's Select Seed in the flowers section?)
11. French Grey shallots, Yellow Potato Onions, and Hardneck Garlic (Territorial Seed), all 3 in a dedicated 3'x8' Allium Bed, this fall.
12. Dedicated 3'x8' strawberry bed w/ everbearing plants
13. Never use cheap seed starting mix. Ever.
14. Amend all soil this fall with LOTS of manure, vermiculite, possibly peat, and high-nitrogen low-pH fertilizer
15. grow LOTS and LOTS more sweet peas and also sugar-pod peas
16. Tromboncino squash, no more "experiments"
17. Grow less broccoli, no cauliflower
18. Luther Hill corn started silking on July 24, Ruby Queen started silking on July 26. both were first pre-sprouted and seeded May 28
19. Change garden layout to have 4 square sections instead of 3, privacy bushes along the north side, and a shed.
20. Fruit Trees! Blueberry Bushes! Raspberries!
